Ingredients

Onion Rings Ingredients
  • 2 large large onions Peeled and sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For coating
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds flavor
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Adds warmth and color
  • ½ teaspoon salt Adjust according to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper Adjust according to taste
  • 1 large egg For binding
  • 1 cup buttermilk Helps tenderize onions

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by peeling the onions and slicing them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Place the onion rings in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  4. Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dip each ring into the flour mixture, ensuring they are coated, and shake off any excess flour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then arrange a single layer of onion rings in the basket, making sure they don’t overlap.
  3. Lightly spray the tops of the onion rings with cooking spray.
  4. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the onion rings are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the crispy onion rings from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

For extra crunch, let the coated onion rings rest for a few minutes before cooking. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket for even cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the air fryer for best results.
