Method
Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, approximately ¼ inch thick.
- Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Soak for at least 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove the onions from the buttermilk and dip each ring into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour.
Cooking
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange a single layer of onion rings in the basket without overcrowding.
- Spray the tops of the onion rings lightly with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
For best results, slice onion rings uniformly in thickness. Monitor cooking time closely to prevent burning. Allow cooling on a wire rack to avoid sogginess. Experiment with spices for customized flavors.
