Preparation
  1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, approximately ¼ inch thick.
  2. Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Soak for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Remove the onions from the buttermilk and dip each ring into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange a single layer of onion rings in the basket without overcrowding.
  3. Spray the tops of the onion rings lightly with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, slice onion rings uniformly in thickness. Monitor cooking time closely to prevent burning. Allow cooling on a wire rack to avoid sogginess. Experiment with spices for customized flavors.
