Preparation
- Begin by peeling and thinly slicing the onion into rings or strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well so that the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Toss the sliced onions into the dry mixture, ensuring that each piece is well coated.
Cooking
- Preheat the air fryer to 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or use a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the coated onion slices in the basket in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd them; cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry the onions for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Look for a nice golden color and crisp texture to know they’re done.
- Once they are well-cooked, remove the crispy onions and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve immediately for the best texture. If storing leftovers, use an airtight container and consume within a day or two. Reheat in the air fryer to restore crispiness.
