Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Gradually add the flour and mix until a slightly sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 450°F (230°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil, adding baking soda carefully.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it into ropes about ½ inch thick and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
- Carefully boil the pretzel bites in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush each bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
- Arrange pretzel bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Best enjoyed warm. Can be reheated in the air fryer for about 4 minutes. Dough can be made ahead.
