Ingredients

For the stir-fry
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 0.25 cup Soy Sauce Use low-sodium for a healthier version.
  • 1 tsp Chili Flakes Adjust according to spice preference.
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar Honey or maple syrup can be used as alternatives.
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Oil Can substitute with vegetable oil.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Use fresh for the best flavor.
  • 2 cups Broccoli Florets Substitute with bok choy or snap peas.
  • 1 medium Red Bell Pepper Yellow or green are suitable substitutes.
  • 1 medium Zucchini Can replace with eggplant or yellow squash.
  • 1 cup Mushrooms Any type works well.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Can use vegetable or canola oil instead.
  • 4 cups Steamed White Rice Brown rice or quinoa can add fiber.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by washing and chopping all the vegetables. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets, slice the bell pepper, zucchini, and mushrooms so they cook evenly. Set them aside.
Cooking the Beef
  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once hot, add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Adding Flavor
  1. Stir in the minced garlic, sautéing for about a minute until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Pour this mixture over the cooked beef, stirring to coat everything evenly.
Sautéing Vegetables
  1. Add the broccoli, bell pepper, zucchini, and mushrooms to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 4-6 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still vibrant and crisp.
Serving
  1. Serve the spicy beef stir-fry over a bed of warm steamed rice. Drizzle any leftover sauce from the pan on top.

Notes

Use high heat for better stir-frying results and fresh ingredients for optimal flavor. This dish is versatile; swap in any veggies you have on hand.
